#Writer's #Blog: Meet the #Author, Part I - The Intro

Looking at my list of potential blog topics, though, I started thinking about influences, and that led me to realize that people often want to know more about what goes on inside the head of a writer or any other artist. Author's are generally very happy to talk about their influences and passions, about the thing which drive their work. There is, however, a limited amount of time and space that can be allocated to such things, and so we're left with one paragraph book jacket summaries or sometimes a more detailed web entry. A really famous (or infamous) artist might get a bitchin' Wikipedia article, but that's a third-party perspective that lacks any of the emotion and humanity that people want to see. It is for this reason that I'll be spending the next few weeks doing a multi-part post about my influences, passions, hobbies, and aspirations. It's my hope that people will come to find new insight into the writing process, and realize that art can be found all around them. It may bring people to understand my novels in a new light, or else to find a shared interest. It is these shared interests and exchanges that build relationships, which is the ultimate goal of this blog and indeed all of my writing.

In no particular order, the rough topic list I've developed is:

- Movies
- Books
- Video games (groan or cheer if you must)
- Outside hobbies
- Values
- Religion and politics, especially stuff involving the Middle East (just kidding)
- Travel/culture
- The Outro

And that's about all I can come up with off the cuff. Some of those might be rolled together into one entry, and some might be dropped entirely. I had movies on the brain most recently, so it seems like a fitting place to start. Swing by next week as I line up my top five films and explain how they've influenced me as a person and as a writer, and how they might just be worth your digging in to as well.

Thinking about the topic can take much time if the author doesn't have any inspiration. In this case, it would be good to travel or visit some places nearby. You can meet interesting people and interesting topic comes to your mind. Or you can also send request to other writers to help you with the topic.
